Val D’Isere ski chalets

Alpinium is so very excited to announce that we are offering fully catered chalets in the iconic French ski resort of Val D’Isere from this winter season 2022-23. Our chalets are impressively located within the resort just a short walk from the main resort ski lift and all the fabulous attractions that Val has to offer.

The whole linked area of Val d’Isere and Tignes ‘known as’ Espace Killy is no more, but don’t worry the area is still fabulous and these two gigantic resorts are still linked and now known as “Val d’Isere-Tignes”. After 40-something years, it probably made sense to cease calling the area after its greatest sporting hero – a new generation of skiers may not know who Jean Claude Killy is…

But for information

Jean-Claude Killy of France became the first ski hero to sweep the board in the then three alpine disciplines (Super-G came later) at Grenoble in 1968. His controversial start technique caused a kerfuffle at the time. By using his enormous upper body strength he threw himself through the starting gate to give himself a distinct advantage over his fellow competitors.

Later he gave his name to Killy ski clothing and skis, as well as Espace Killy – the former name of the combined ski area Val and Tignes. He has worked as a ski instructor, actor, and racing driver.

Most famous quote: “Winning tastes good. To win, you have to risk loss.”

Some fun facts about the resort

Val d'Isère guarantees snow from November to May thanks to the largest snowmaking facility in Europe – The Snow Factory. It cost €3 million to build and can produce 2,500m3 of environmentally-friendly artificial snow in just one hour – enough to cover an entire football pitch in two metres of snow

Val d’Isère was a hot setting for video games! In 1994 saw Val d’Isère Challenge released for the Super Nintendo, Val d’Isère Skiing and Snowboarding followed on the Atari Jaguar in 1995, and in 2002 Val d’Isère Park Manager for Windows ’98.

When you ski in Val d’Isère you are literally following in the tracks of legends as Val was home to triple Olympic gold medallist Jean-Claude Killy, has hosted Olympic events (1992), the World Championships (2009), and the World Cup Critérium de la Première Neige (every year since 1955).

Bellevarde

Perhaps the most famous of Val d’Isère’s many and varied slopes, Bellevarde has a superb black run that looms over the town with a summit of 2,807 meters. It has featured in a number of tournaments, including most notably the 1992 Winter Olympics and the 2009 Alpine Ski World Championships. It is also notable for the fact that it is accessible by a high quality cable car, the Olympique, that reaches the top in just six minutes and, with 24-place carriages, is one of the largest and most efficient in the world.
